Abstract
Clinical analysis of fractures of forearm bone shaft in 52 cases treated at the orthopaedic department of
The Pusan Military Hospital during the period from 1969 to 1970 is presented.
1. The causes of fracture of the forearm bone were gun-shot wound and traffic accident. (49%) 2. The site of fractures were 21 cases in radius, 18 cases in ulna, and 13 casses in both bones.
3. The method of initial treatment were conservatively treated in 33 cases and open reduction in 19 cases. 4. The method of open reduction were metal plating with screw fixation on radius and steinman pin
fixation in ulna.
5. Duration of immobilization were average 9-11 weeks in closed reduction and lo-12 weeks in open reduction cases.
6. The complication were infection in 4 cases, motion limitation (flexion and extention) in 6 cases and forearm rotatory limitation in 3 cases.
7. The final result compared with each method (open and closed reduction) were as follows. In closed reduction, there were malunion in 3 cases, delayed union in 5 cases, and noe-union in 7 cases. In open reduction, there were malunion in only one case.
